Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 11/20/2017, Dr. Gottesman has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. Click here to view a listing of instances where Cleveland Clinic has identified a Public Health Service (PHS)-Reportable Financial Conflict of Interest and has put measures in place to ensure that, to the extent possible, the design, conduct and reporting of the research is free from bias.

10 Patient Comments

Reviewed on Apr 10, 2018

I'll repeat my comments here: Great experience: Dr. Gottesman has been doing my colonoscopy procedure for the past 17 years. I believe that without his diligence and guidance, there is a strong possibility that I would not be here today. He found a nasty polyp when I was in my early 50s, and at time it was recommended that I receive several more colonoscopies to make sure that I was out of danger from something far more serious. I'm currently being guided to a 5-year regiment. Dr. Gottesman and his highly professional colleagues make the, (rather tedious), process a far more enjoyable procedure than it would ordinarily be. Consummate professionals and an extremely organized and caring organization best describe Dr. Gottesman and his terriffic staff. I feel very fortunate to be one of Dr. Gottesman's patients.

Dr. Gottesman was rude, condescending, hurried, and annoyed.

Reviewed on Jan 2, 2018

Would have liked to talk to the doctor after the procedure to hear what was done and what was found.

Reviewed on Jan 2, 2018

No particular parting words as to what was done, what was found, etc.

Reviewed on Dec 12, 2017

In general, having a colonoscopy is not a person's top choice of something to look forward to. However, Dr Gottesman and his staff made it fun and totally non-stressful. I have had colonoscopies by Dr Gottesman multiple times over the years, and they have all been positive experiences.

Reviewed on Dec 12, 2017

I saw a very organized team that was professional, personable, and gave me excellent care.

Reviewed on Nov 28, 2017

took time to listen and fully answer my questions

Reviewed on Oct 31, 2017

the doctor came to see me right after a procedure when I was still under the effect of an anaesthetic so I didn't understand what he said. My partner was there but didn't know what questions to ask. Would have been better if the doctor had waited until I had recovered from the anaesthetic

Reviewed on Oct 23, 2017

no medications other than prep instructions for colonoscopy
