Biography

About Elham Yousef, MD

Elham Yousef, MD, MSC is a Staff physician in the Medicine Institute, Department of Hospital Medicine and an Assistant Professor of Medicine, Cleveland Clinic Lerner College (CCLCM) of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). Dr. Yousef is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Family Medicine. She is currently enrolled in the Executive MBA- Executive Master of Business Administration program- of Weathered School of Management of Case Western Reserve, class of 2020. She is the Director of the Acute Care of the Foundation of Clinical Medicine of CCLCM and A member At Large of the Executive Board of the Women’s professional Staff Association (WPSA) of CCF.

Dr. Yousef’s passion in medicine is to make diagnosis safe, accurate, and timely and to engage and partner with her patients and their families throughout the diagnosis process. Through her work and collaboration with the Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine both in the Policy, Advocacy and Education Committees, Dr. Yousef was among the committee that wrote “The Road Map for Research To Improve Diagnosis” that was presented to the Congress and led to the newly enacted federal spending bill calling for improving medical diagnosis a “moral, professional and public health imperative”. Dr. Yousef is chairing the Society of Hospital Medicine Diagnosis Error Subcommittee where she is focused on increasing awareness about diagnosis errors as well as improving diagnosis quality and safety of hospitalized patients.

Dr. Yousef has been invited to speak about diagnosis errors and diagnosis safety and presented workshops to the Society of Hospital Medicine annual meeting, Ohio Hospitals Association, Cleveland Clinic Institute of medicine Grand round.

Dr. Yousef earned her medical degree from Assiut University, Faculty of Medicine in Egypt. She completed Internal Medicine Residency with special training in Nephrology and Kidney Transplant at both Assiut University Hospitals and Mansura Urology and Nephrology Center in Egypt. She completed Family Medicine residency at Rush University Medical Center, Rush Copley Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. She earned her Masters in Clinical Science and Internal Medicine from Assiut University Faculty of Medicine, her Master’s degree thesis titled:  “A Randomized Study of the Underlying Etiology of Chronic Renal Impairment in the Nephrology Out-Patient Clinic at Assiut University Hospital” Thesis submitted in the fulfillment for the Degree of M.Sc.in Medicine. Approved by the Thesis Committee, Assiut University Hospital, Egypt. September, 2000

Dr. Yousef is a recipient of Distinguished Educator Status from Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, as well as multiple scholarships for outstanding scholastic achievement from College of Family Physicians of Canada, North American Primary Care Research Group, and The Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors, Society of Teachers of Family Medicine award for recognition of demonstrated ability and commitment to education.

Dr. Yousef is a member of several professional societies including the American College of Physician, Society of Hospital Medicine, Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine and American Medical Association.
