About Stephanie Mick, MD

Stephanie Mick, MD, is a cardiovascular surgeon in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and the Surgical Director of the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement program  in the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute at Cleveland Clinic. She is board-certified in cardiothoracic surgery.

Education and Training: After graduating Summa Cum Laude from Columbia University, Dr. Mick completed medical school at Weill Cornell Medical College, New York, NY, where she was awarded the Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Award, given to the female medical student with the best graduating academic record. 

She completed an internship and residency in general surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Cornell in New York City, during which she won the Chief Residents’ Award for Clinical Excellence.  She then completed a three-year research post-doctoral fellowship with an interest in vascular biology at New York University School of Medicine. 

Dr. Mick returned to New York Presbyterian-Cornell to complete her chief residency in general surgery. She completed her subspecialty training in cardiothoracic surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, MA, where she specialized in adult cardiac surgery.  She joined Cleveland Clinic in 2011 as a clinical associate in cardiac surgery and was appointed to the full medical staff in 2012.  She is the surgical director of the transcatheter aortic valve replacement program and is a cardiac surgeon who performs many types of cardiac surgery including robotic cardiac surgery.

Publications, Speaking and Research: Dr. Mick has authored many articles and editorials published in leading medical journals. She has been an invited presenter at meetings of the American Heart Association, the New York Academy of Sciences, the Western Thoracic Surgical Association and the American Academy of Cardiovascular Perfusion.  Dr. Mick is a member of the American Heart Association, American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association and Society of Thoracic Surgeons.

Dr. Mick is involved in several significant clinical research projects at Cleveland Clinic, including studies on alternative cardioplegia solutions, hybrid cardiac procedures, robotic cardiac surgery and transcatheter valve therapies.

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education.
