About Amar Krishnaswamy, MD

Amar Krishnaswamy, MD, is Section Head of Invasive & Interventional Cardiology in the Robert and Suzanne Tomisch Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. He is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiology, and interventional cardiology.

Specialty Interests: Complex coronary interventions, structural heart disease interventions (including TAVR, PFO/ASD closure, left atrial appendage occlusion, paravalvular leak closure, and catheter mitral valve repair and replacement) and carotid/peripheral interventions. He also attends in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.

Number of Patients Treated: Dr. Krishnaswamy has performed more than 5,000 cardiovascular procedures throughout his career (including more than 1,500 TAVR procedures).

Education and Training: Dr. Krishnaswamy was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. He completed his undergraduate degree at Colgate University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with majors in Molecular Biology and in Economics. He received his medical degree at Yale University School of Medicine, where he was awarded a grant to spend an extra year studying the vascular biology of transplantation. He went on to Internal Medicine residency in the Osler Training Program at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was honored with the opportunity to serve as Assistant Chief of Service (Chief Resident) upon completion of his training. He then went on to complete both General Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology fellowships at Cleveland Clinic after which he was invited to join the staff.

Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr Krishnaswamy's research interests concentrate on multimodality imaging, percutaneous valve therapies, and coronary artery disease. He has authored and co-authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and textbook chapters relating to his areas of clinical interest.

About Dr. Krishnaswamy: “The practice of interventional cardiology requires not only a consideration and performance of the procedures, but also to make sure what specifically makes sense for a given patient and their family. This requires an understanding of the patients’ thoughts and personal considerations which can only come from engaged conversations. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to have these conversations and establish long-term patient relationships, and also perform the procedures that allow patients to feel better and live longer.

Leisure time activities: In his spare time, Dr. Krishnaswamy enjoys hiking, travel and spending time with his family

I was to schedule 6 months from my last appt 2-23-2023. Initially I understood that I would receive an appointment on mychart. I emailed & the doctors office received no response. Fonally I did what your website to get an appointment. Early in Feb 0f 24 I received an email that the appointment was scheduled & the next day I received an email that you were unable to schedule the appt. On Feb 19, 2024 I received an email I was scheduled for Feb 23, 2024 but the week before it was not listed on appts on mychart. I have never had this problem before.

AS I stated, getting an initial appointment at CC tooks several months. Way too long. I was discouraged and frustrated many times. After all is said and done, I was so pleased with the results of the procedure from Dr. Kishshawamy (sp?) that looking back it was worth it to me. I'm just glad I lived long enough to secure his services. The length of time waiting for an appointment was the worst thing.

Dr. Krishnaswamy is a skilled physician who cares about his patients. He explains possible treatments thoroughly. When I first became his patient, he drew me pictures of the heart and explained why his CABG recommendations differed from those I'd received at another hospital. Needless to say I came to Cleveland Clinic for my surgery and care. He suspected I had elevated lp(a) and after my surgery referred me to Dr. Luke Laffin. I appreciate his continuing expertise.

Having met Dr, Krishaswamy for the 1st time, although my wife had previously met him, I found him to be very impressive and not in a prideful manner, but with very obviously genuine care, concern and knowledge of my Cardiac Condition that led me to him, along with the comprehensive series of diagnostic tests and procedures by the other cardiac specialists he had arranged for my 3-Day Cardiac Workup visit for a possible TAVR valve replacement procedure. I was especially impressed with the manner In which he explained my condition In a very profession, yet simplistic and reassuring manner, which was very helpful In calming given the anxieties my wife and I had regarding the our 3-Day Cardiac Workup visit!
