Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 5/7/2018, Dr. Masin has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. Click here to view a listing of instances where Cleveland Clinic has identified a Public Health Service (PHS)-Reportable Financial Conflict of Interest and has put measures in place to ensure that, to the extent possible, the design, conduct and reporting of the research is free from bias.

I broke my wrist out of state and was told I needed surgery ASAP. I wanted to come home for a second opinion and for the surgery if it was deemed necessary. I contacted a few CCF providers. One was not able to see me until at least August 24th. I am grateful and was relieved Dr. Masin could see me, and complete the necessary surgery within a week of my initial call to his office. I am comfortable with the care he is providing and optimistic about my prognosis.

I was very pleased with my experience. I thought the resident for Dr. Masin was particularly good.

This has been a 13 week journey. My Doctor has always told me what to expect going forward. He has been reassuring and extremely thorough. I have received excellent care. A phone call or a message to My Chart clarified two problems throughout these last 3+ months.

my experience with dr. mason was disappointing. my husband and I found him to be dismissive and detached.

I would definitely refer Dr. Masin to anyone who is suffering from the same health concerns as myself. He is a good doctor.

Very good care by Dr Masin, his nurse Coulton and the rest of his staff. Extremely helpful and took my health issues as a major concern. Glad I chose Dr Masin and his staff to take care of my surgery

Physician did not discuss the likely outcome of my situation -- whether or not this will improve or if surgery is likely, and I was in too much pain to remember to ask him.

Reviewed on Jan 26, 2018

Dr. did nothing to really determine how injury was progressing, (no xray) Said xray would not make heal faster, but we thought it might shed light on how it was healing.

He was in the room with me for about 2 minutes and basically said there was nothing wrong with my wrist even though I'm in constant pain.

Reviewed on Jan 15, 2018

I wanted to make sure I didn't have an injury to my shoulder...don't want another rotator cuff surgery! Doctor was happy to give me a shot to ease the pain, and it's been really nice. I'd had pain in this shoulder for 2 months.
