Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 9/18/2017, Dr. Muzina has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. Dr. Muzina is fantastic and always treats me with respect and kindness. I have recommended her to all of my Colleagues.

We needed to decide whether to change or increase one of my meds. I asked for a span of time (til my next visit) to evaluate my issue, think about my options, and we'd talk next visit. Next visit, we agreed to an increase in one medication. I can't even express how much I appreciate being able to be such a 50/50 partner in my care. The doctor makes good suggestions for me, she prescribes carefully and appropriately, and I know I can always talk something over with her before the next move is decided. I sent her an email thanking her for just this and telling her how the new dose was working out.

Your receptionists at Cleveland Clinic, whether it's immunology, spine institute, or behavioral health are all super, I believe you must offer a very good training program and hire personalities that fill your goals in the patient-contact arena. Good Job! I always book my next follow-up before I leave, so getting an approprietely-spaced follow up is never a problem. Once, the appointments I booked didn't 'save' in the system. Both Dr. Muzina's office and, at the time, Dr. Kammer's office, apologized quickly and worked with me to get me in asap.

Unlike some (too many) mental health professionals, Dr. Muzina does not condescend to her patients, but listens to us. She does not dictate my care to me as if she knows all and I know nothing, she partners with me in my care, which is as it should be.

Amazing knowledge of range of medications from older "traditional" scripts to the latest releases. It is obvious that she reads and trains constantly to remain always current in her understanding of medications which might be effective under many different patient situations. She is bright, engaging, gives patient the time the patient needs, and most importantly for this patient, is effective in diagnosis and prescribing appropriate medications.

I cannot express how much I value Dr. Muzina's care. She is thorough, courteous, and allows me to have input into my mental health care. When addressing medication changes, we discuss the pros and cons of a potential change. Finally, she is accessible via email (MyChart). I live 2 hours away, and it is nice to be able to have questions/concerns addressed this way.
