Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 10/20/2020, Dr. Gebel has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. Dr. Gebel is amazing. He has a connection with and concern for the patient that I have found unusual in other neurologists.

Dr. Gebel is an excellent doctor. He maintains eye contact throughout the entire visit and he truly cares for his patients.

My husband had a stroke and has short term memory loss. Dr Gebel was in a hurry and when my husband left after his appointment he told me, " I don't want to go back to him because he talked down to me." I agreed. I know more about the Drs desire to lose weight than I do some of the medicine he prescribed for my husband. I understand Dr. Gebel has an outstanding reputation, but seeing that side of him has often been difficult for me, as my husband's care giver. The dr was late to enter the exam room then blamed us for the time he was spending and spoke of his busy schedule and his necessity to leave us because of it. My sister was also present via telephone for specific medical questions and also felt this way. I'm saying this because i hope this sheds some light on his interaction with pts. and I would not publicly say this on his review. His attitude toward my husband was condescending and, as a neurologist, I found that a bit disturbing. Yes, my husband repeated questions, which I tried to field, but the way he felt when he left broke my heart. I wish Dr Gebel the very best in his pursuit of caring for stroke victims . Thank you.
