Adolescent Depression Screening

Adolescent Depression Screening

Through the creation of an Ambulatory Care Dashboard, Primary Care Pediatrics has been able to regularly review, monitor, and implement changes for several metrics tied directly to patient outcomes. Adolescent Depression Screening was added to the dashboard in 2018. This metric represents the percentage of adolescents seen for a preventative visit in the last year, who were screened for depression with a standardized tool (PHQ-A). Screening is vital.

Our care teams currently receive alerts at the point of care to prompt completion of the PHQ-A every 12 months. Care teams are also alerted when a patient is overdue for depression screening so that care teams can prioritize which patients need outreach.

Driven by changes in operations in 2020, data capture for Adolescent Depression Screening was inconsistent and cannot be compared to prior years or the department goal. 2021 metrics will be reported when available.
