Change to pre-surgical/pre-procedural COVID-19 testing
At this stage of the pandemic, several factors allow our organization to safely change pre-surgical and pre-procedural testing requirements in Ohio and Florida. This includes low and decreasing community spread of COVID-19 and increased vaccination rates among patients and caregivers. We have also observed an extremely low COVID-19 test positivity rate for pre-surgical and pre-procedural patients over the last 12 weeks.
For these reasons, beginning June 21, COVID-19 testing will no longer be required for asymptomatic adult patients (age 15 and older) undergoing most outpatient surgeries or procedures within an operating room or ambulatory surgery center.
We will continue to require COVID-19 testing for patients undergoing an inpatient procedure, pediatric patients (age 14 and younger), and patients undergoing select higher potential aerosol-generating procedures. Testing these patients helps maintain our safe environment of care and reduces risk of patient complications.

Additional testing may be required for other procedures based upon a patient’s symptoms. Testing may be performed based on clinical need.
