COVID-19 risk model developed by Cleveland Clinic now available to other health systems through Epic
Developed and tested using clinical data from more than 11,000 Cleveland Clinic patients, the model uses information from patients’ comprehensive health records combined with patient-entered information in Epic’s patient-facing app, MyChart, to show an individual’s likelihood of testing positive for COVID-19.
Staff Chat generates valuable feedback about COVID-19 vaccination
Your Medical Staff Officers are eager to work with you to improve your Cleveland Clinic practice experience.
COVID-19 has created tremendous challenges. As vaccine development continues, the World Health Organization has provided preliminary guidance prioritizing healthcare workers to receive a vaccine before other groups.
On Oct. 14, we posted the Staff Chat question: “What are your thoughts about upcoming COVID-19 vaccination (timing, safety, distribution or other aspects) that you would like to share with our organization?”
It generated 97 responses. Thank you for your ideas and feedback. There is clearly a lot of thought and energy around the possibility of a COVID-19 vaccine.
These were the most common thoughts that respondents shared:
- Staff expect transparency around the data surrounding the vaccine.
- There is an expectancy that all Food and Drug Administration/Centers for Disease Control safety processes will be followed.
- Staff expressed trust in their Cleveland Clinic colleagues, especially in Infectious Disease, to scrutinize the data and make safe recommendations to colleagues and administration.
- Staff have questions about both short- and long-term effects of any possible vaccines, and many are curious to know whether the vaccine will be a mandatory requirement to interact with patients and families.
Thank you for your candor and for providing your input. While no definitive recommendations or requirements have been made or published at this time, your responses and concerns are being heard, and will help formulate upcoming policies and procedures.
