Hospital CEOs come together, urge community to protect one another from COVID-19
Cleveland Clinic CEO and President Tom Mihaljevic, MD, was joined by MetroHealth System President and CEO Akram Boutros, MD, FACHE, and University Hospitals President Cliff Megerian, MD, in a joint press conference to address the growing concern over the increase of COVID-19 cases impacting hospitals, healthcare workers and the community.
In an effort to protect our caregivers and one another, the leaders urged the public to do the following:
- Continue to wear masks. There is proof that masks work, and we are seeing people either not wear masks at all, not wear masks properly or not wear masks when they are in large groups of friends or family members. While it may be difficult at times, it is necessary. Those who find it difficult to communicate while wearing masks can view these masking tips.
- Avoid large gatherings, where people may forgo the proper precautions, such as mask wearing or social distancing. This is especially important with Thanksgiving coming up. Instead of coming together as you have in years past, consider these alternative methods.
- Wash your hands frequently. Regular handwashing is one of the best ways to remove germs, avoid getting sick and prevent the spread of germs to others. Read more from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“What we face is perhaps the most sobering situation during this pandemic,” says Dr. Mihaljevic. “It is a turning point in the truest sense, and the power to do what is right is now in the hands of each member of every community.”
Northeast Ohio hospitals address COVID-19 fatigue as cases rise in Ohio
Gov. Mike DeWine has encouraged all Ohioans not to get complacent. We stand with him in support of that advice. If we continue to work together and stay strong, we will get through this. We will emerge stronger in the end.
