You should see a doctor for an ingrown toenail if:

  • You have complications of diabetes.
  • You have signs and symptoms of infection (drainage, extreme pain, or redness).
  • You have poor circulation.
  • Topical antibiotic ointment, soaking and self-care are insufficient.
