When is it time to call the doctor if I have salmonella?

Call the doctor if:

  • Illness lasts longer than a few days
  • Diarrhea is severe or bloody
  • A fever over 101.5°F that lasts longer than a day
  • The sick person is at risk for severe salmonella:
    • a person age 65 or older
    • an infant
    • someone with a weak immune system
    • someone with inflammatory bowel disease
