Cleveland Clinic Florida Announces Medical Leadership Appointments

Cleveland Clinic Florida announces several leadership appointments in the Departments of Plastic Surgery, Radiology, Anesthesiology and Orthopaedic Surgery. The appointments are representative of the growth of the Cleveland Clinic Florida organization, now employing nearly 180 physicians in over 35 specialties.

David Friedman, MD has been named Chairman of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Trained as a general surgeon and as a board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Friedman also holds a certificate of added qualifications in surgery of the hand. As both a hand surgeon and plastic surgeon, Dr. Friedman provides a multi-disciplinary and comprehensive approach to patient care. Dr. Friedman earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He completed his residency in general surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and his plastic surgery and hand surgery residencies at New York University Medical Center.
Gregory Gilot, MD. has been appointed Chairman of Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, having served as interim chairman and staff surgeon at Cleveland Clinic Florida for over three years. He completed his medical degree at Pennsylvania State University, his orthopaedic residency at Louisiana State University and an adult shoulder fellowship at University of Texas. His specialty interests include shoulder repair and replacement, including disorders of the rotator cuff, shoulder instability, degenerative and inflammatory arthritis of the shoulder and revision shoulder surgery. Previously, Dr. Gilot was assistant professor and co-chief for the hand and shoulder service in the Department of Orthopaedics at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis.
George DeVelasco, MD and Enrique Huertas, MD were recently named Vice Chairs of the Department of Anesthesiology. Dr. DeVelasco obtained his medical degree at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, and completed his advanced anesthesia residency training at University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital. He specializes in cardiovascular anesthesia. Dr. Huertas achieved his medical degree at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey completed his advanced anesthesiology training at Jackson Memorial Hospital. His areas of specialization include cardiothoracic and neuro-anesthesia.
Darby Sider, MD will now serve as the Internal Medicine Residency Associate Program Director at Cleveland Clinic Florida. She has specialized in women’s health and asthma in Department of Internal Medicine at Cleveland Clinic for the last 5 years. Prior to joining the Cleveland Clinic team, she devoted a decade to serving as the primary care practice manager at Verdugo Hills Medical Associates in Glendale, CA. and as a clinical instructor for the Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She earned her medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed an internal medicine and pediatric residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
