Cleveland Clinic Breast Center Earns National Accreditation
November 2, 2010
The Cleveland Clinic Florida Breast Center has been granted a three-year/full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), becoming just the third center in Florida to earn accreditation. Administered by the American College of Surgeons, accreditation is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.
“Earning full accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers is an achievement that exemplifies Cleveland Clinic Florida’s commitment to bringing the highest quality care to our patients,” said Bernie Fernandez, M.D., chief executive officer of Cleveland Clinic Florida.
Further demonstrating Cleveland Clinic Florida’s high standards of care in breast health, the Women’s Imaging Center at Cleveland Clinic Florida was designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology in 2007. Last year Cleveland Clinic Florida also earned Three-Year Approval with Commendation for its cancer program from the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer, which includes comprehensive services for the treatment of breast cancer.
“The Cleveland Clinic Florida Breast Center offers a full-spectrum of services to support breast health, from state-of-the-art diagnostics to expertise in medical and radiation oncology, breast oncology surgery, and plastic surgery,” added Cleveland Clinic surgical oncologist Cassann Blake, M.D. “Our multi-disciplinary team of health care professionals is dedicated to the prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer and other diseases of the breast.”
During the NAPBC survey process, centers must demonstrate compliance with standards established for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease. The standards include proficiency in the areas of: center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement. A breast center that achieves NAPBC accreditation has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease.
Receiving care at a NAPBC-accredited center ensures that a patient will have access to:
- Comprehensive care, including a full range of state-of-the-art services
- A multi-disciplinary team approach to coordinate best treatment options
- Information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options
- And, quality breast care close to home.
The NAPBC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to the improvement of the quality of care and monitoring of outcomes of patients with diseases of the breast. This mission is pursued through standard-setting, scientific validation, and patient and professional education. Its board membership includes professionals from 15 national organizations that reflect the full spectrum of breast care.
