Healthy People 2020¹ calls for 70% vaccination rate for influenza and 90% vaccination rate for pneumonia. An evaluation of baseline vaccination rates for patients on immunosuppressive drugs at CCF rheumatology clinics revealed rates well below guidelines. Patients in CCF rheumatology clinics on immunosuppressive drugs had documented vaccination rates for PCV-13 of 10.3%, PPSV-23 of 25.5%, and influenza of 8.7%. These data were the basis for a quality initiative to improve vaccination rates. After a 12-week QI project, documented influenza vaccination increased from 8.7% to 55.3%, PCV13 increased from 10.3% to 39.7%, and PPSV23 increased from 25.5% to 47.9%. In addition to the increases from the initiative, the data for week 12 reflects the use of the Ohio Statewide Immunization Information System, which compiles immunization data on patients throughout the state.
