Amy R. Young, MSN, RN, ACCNS-AG, CCRN, is a clinical nurse specialist in the neurological and neurosurgical intensive care unit and step-down unit at Cleveland Clinic main campus. Young made her foray into the nursing profession in 2008, joining Cleveland Clinic’s neurology team as a staff nurse in intensive care. In 2013, she transitioned to clinical nurse specialist intern and in 2014, she moved into the clinical nurse specialist role upon completion of her Master’s degree. Her professional experience includes patient assessment, development of care plans, procedure assistance, patient and family education, and more.
In her current role, she leads various initiatives surrounding pressure ulcer prevention and hospital-acquired infection prevention. She serves as co-chair for Cleveland Clinic Nursing’s grand rounds program and is currently the primary investigator on a research study evaluating stroke patients across the inpatient care continuum. Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic in 2008, Young held a one-year position with The Ohio State University Medical Center. She was employed within the medical center’s ambulatory surgery area as a patient care associate. Young is a board member of the Northeast Ohio chapter of the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses and a member of the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses and American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.

Young has created a leadership path for herself through the significant work she has done as a staff nurse and clinical nurse specialist intern. With a leadership philosophy that is teaching-based, she encourages others to use insight and evidence-based practice to deliver superior patient care and improved outcomes.
Clinical Practice & Teaching
Young’s clinical expertise lies within the area of neuroscience and neurology nursing.
Young proudly serves as a mentor to both nurses and Cleveland Clinic nurse coaches throughout their careers. Additionally, she co-chairs a mentoring program specifically for nurses within their first year of employment in Cleveland Clinic’s ICU and SDU nursing units. She is also a clinical nurse specialist lecturer for the neurological institute and provides educational materials and consultation as part of Cleveland Clinic’s hospital-acquired infection prevention days.
Research & Publications
Young served as a panel presenter at the 5th annual Management of Acute Stroke Conference in Cleveland, Ohio, in 2013. Currently, she is the primary investigator on a research study evaluating stroke patients across the inpatient care continuum.
