Cleveland Clinic is one of the nation's largest group practice organizations with over 1,400 full-time, salaried physicians. The Department of Plastic Surgery is offering a one year post graduate transition fellowship for APN and PA new graduates, which are the first programs of their kind nationally for plastic surgery and surgical wound care & reconstruction.

Fellows will be exposed to advance didactic and clinical specialty training including new/emerging technologies, bolstered by a core curriculum to include training in leadership and the business of healthcare.

These programs are designed to foster a cooperative learning environment during the critical transition period to practice.

Surgical Wound Care & Reconstruction Post Graduate Fellowship – NP/PA

Requirements

Competitive candidates will have successfully completed applicable (at least) master’s degree program. Additionally, they must hold active unrestricted board certification and all applicable Ohio licensure to practice and prescribe as defined by the Ohio Revised Code. We will offer completion of the Ohio certificate to prescribe externship as part of this fellowship opportunity for mid-level providers.

Position Description

A one-year post graduate fellowship in surgical wound care & reconstruction is available beginning August 1 through July 31(annually), at Cleveland Clinic. Candidates will acquire extensive clinical and didactic expertise in inpatient and outpatient wound care to include surgical intervention and management (plastic, vascular, podiatric, orthopedic, colorectal, and general surgery), diagnostic evaluation (infectious disease, dermatology, physical and rehabilitation medicine, and hyperbaric oxygen), and multidisciplinary management (physical therapy, and nutrition). At the conclusion of this fellowship, the fellow will be prepared to independently organize, develop and run an advanced surgical wound service.

Along with their clinical training, candidates will participate in and plan research initiatives in the Department of Plastic Surgery; candidates will be supported to submit abstracts, articles for publication and attend major wound meeting(s).

Candidates will be exposed to emerging technologies in wound care including EMR based data analytics and informatics, ancillary therapies, point-of–care diagnostics, and surgical reconstruction. Fellows will gain hands on experience in the evidence-based use of existing wound technologies including hyperbaric oxygen, skin/soft tissue substitutes, and negative pressure wound therapy systems. Additional experience will be afforded to the candidate at Cleveland Clinic’s Wound Healing Centers.

The position is offered through the Acute Surgical Wound & Reconstruction Service in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic directed by Christi Cavaliere, MD.

Compensation and Benefits

The fellow will be hired in a full-time, salary exempt position not to exceed one full year of employment. The fellow will be eligible for the full-time benefits as described in the Total Rewards Brochure. The salary will be paid to the employee on a semi-monthly basis.

If the fellow is successful in the role, upon completion of the termed program the fellow will have the option to apply for an open position within the department or within the Cleveland Clinic enterprise. If the fellow does not secure employment within the Cleveland Clinic, their employment will be terminated per the terms of this fellowship.

At the conclusion of this program, the candidate will be prepared to independently organize, develop and run an advanced specialty service.

Additional direct experience to include: face transplantation, hand transplantation, transgender surgery, hyperbaric oxygen, skin/soft tissue substitutes, and negative pressure wound therapy systems.

The position is offered through the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.
