Cleveland Clinic Names Top 10 Medical Innovations for 2014
Philanthropists Ken and Patricia Cleveland Make Donation on His 81st Birthday
October 30, 2013
Philanthropists Ken and Patricia Cleveland from Hinckley gave $4 million to the Cleveland Clinic Brunswick Family Health Center in support of capital projects, including the expansion of the emergency department, which is currently underway and slated to open in July 2014.
“We are so grateful to Ken and Patricia Cleveland for their generous gift toward the Cleveland Clinic Brunswick emergency department expansion,” said Mark Meacham, MD, Medical Director of the Cleveland Clinic Brunswick Family Health Center. “Our building was founded by a medical practice that has been a part of the Brunswick landscape for 30 years. Cleveland Clinic is committed to this region and these funds will help us expand our convenient medical care offerings to the community. Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland’s generosity and legacy will be felt for generations to come.”
Ken Cleveland is an active philanthropist, entrepreneur and developer in Medina County. He started Ken Cleveland Builders in the 1960’s and has built thousands of homes in Brunswick, Medina, Hinckley and Marblehead. Both Ken and Patricia are active in their community and have also established the Ken Cleveland Foundation in the 1980’s to make charitable donations to organizations including the Medina Hospital Foundation and Cleveland Clinic.
Cleveland Clinic broke ground on the Brunswick Family Health Center emergency department expansion this past spring. The $20 million addition will feature a 24,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art 24-hour emergency department with a helipad and an additional 20,000 square feet of second-floor office space. Currently, the Brunswick Family Health Center offers everything from primary care to specialty care – cardiology, pediatrics, family medicine, nephrology, internal medicine, neurology, OB/GYN, orthopedics, physical therapy, pulmonology, radiology, lab testing and sports health.
The Brunswick Family Health Center is located at 3574 Center Road in Brunswick, Ohio.
“We look forward to bringing Cleveland Clinic emergency medicine services to the residents of northern Medina County,” said Brad Borden, MD, Chair of Cleveland Clinic’s Emergency Services Institute. “The generous contribution of the Clevelands will help us build a great facility.”
Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland presented their donation and were honored at the Brunswick Family Health Center on Wednesday, Oct. 30, which coincided with Mr. Cleveland’s 81st birthday. An intimate reception was held in their honor with staff members from Ken Cleveland Builders, Cleveland Clinic and the Medina Hospital Foundation also in attendance.
“Patricia and I have been so blessed and fortunate and it has always been a priority for us to give back to the community,” Mr. Cleveland said. “We have been so impressed with the world-class care we receive at Cleveland Clinic and wanted to support their efforts of building an emergency department in our region.”
