Cleveland Clinic urologists specialize in the treatment of male infertility, providing comprehensive, individualized evaluation and treatment to optimize a couple’s chance of achieving a pregnancy. Treatments for male infertility may include medication to increase sperm production, sperm aspiration for men who are physically unable to ejaculate, microsurgical reconstruction to bypass obstructions in the sperm ducts and surgical repair of varicocele (varicose veins in the testicle).
For men who have undergone a vasectomy in the past, the procedure can often be successfully reversed using microsurgical techniques. Men undergoing cancer treatment, including some types of chemotherapy, radiation therapy or surgery, face the possibility of temporary or permanent damage to their fertility. Cleveland Clinic offers sperm banking for these patients to preserve their dreams of starting a family. Other services offered include semen analysis and genetic testing and counseling.
