Biography

About Umur Hatipoglu, MD

Umur Hatipoglu, MD, MBA is a staff member in the Departments of Critical Care Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine at Cleveland Clinic's Main Campus since September 2008. Prior to that appointment, he served as the Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Hatipoglu is appointed Professor of Medicine, Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He holds an executive MBA from the Case Western University Weatherhead School of Management.

Dr. Hatipoglu served as the Quality Improvement Officer of the Respiratory Institute between 2011 and 2018. He is one of the founding members and the inaugural director of the Center for Comprehensive Care in COPD (COPD Center) in the Department of Pulmonary Medicine. The COPD Center provides a spectrum of services for COPD patients that range from bronchoscopic and surgical interventions for advanced emphysema to noninvasive mechanical ventilation for chronic hypercapnic respiratory failure in a multidisciplinary framework.

Since 2018, Dr. Hatipoglu has been appointed Enterprise Medical Director of Respiratory Therapy, and the Section Head of Respiratory Therapy in the Department of Critical Care Medicine. In this capacity, he provides guidance in operations, quality assurance, capital acquisitions, research and innovation and medical decisions to Cleveland Clinic Enterprise Respiratory Therapy which comprises 18 hospitals in the healthcare system.

His clinical interests include COPD, respiratory care, general (diagnostic) pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine.

Dr. Hatipoglu received his medical degree from Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1992. He completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago and pulmonary and critical care fellowship at Loyola University and Medical Center. He has current board certifications in pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine. Dr. Hatipoglu is a member of the American Thoracic Society.

Dr. Hatipoglu is kind and l compassionate. His expertise Is second to none. While he is my pulmonary physician, he takes care to look at the entire picture and understands how to motivate and empower even when their are circumstances beyond my control.
