About Steven Insler, DO

Steven Insler, DO, is a Staff Anesthesiologist in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit of the Department of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia, Anesthesiology Institute, at Cleveland Clinic. Along with clinical responsibilities in the cardiothoracic operating rooms, he is a critical care physician involved with the care of patients in the cardiothoracic intensive care units following cardiac surgery. He is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in anesthesiology and critical care medicine. Dr. Insler has a special interest in cardiothoracic anesthesiology, critical care medicine, resident education and clinical research.

A native of New York, Dr. Insler graduated from the State University of New York at Albany and received his medical degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. After completing an internship at Peninsula Hospital Center in Far Rockaway, N.Y., and a residency in anesthesiology at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City, he received two fellowships from Cleveland Clinic to continue his clinical training in cardiothoracic anesthesia and critical care medicine. In 1992, he was appointed to Cleveland Clinic in the Department of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia.

Dr. Insler’s clinical research has focused primarily on anesthesia and therapeutic interventions for patients undergoing cardiac surgery. His clinical research led Dr. Insler to develop a bronchial blocking endotracheal tube for which he received a patent.

Dr. Insler is a Quality Assurance Coordinator for the Department of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia. He also serves on the Fellow Selection Committee for the department. He has published articles and abstracts on his specialty interests and research findings in leading peer-reviewed publications, including the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia, Heart Surgery Forum and Annals of Thoracic Surgery.

Dr. Insler is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiology, the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American College of General Practitioners, American Osteopathic Association, American Medical Association, the Ohio State Osteopathic Association, Ohio State Society of Anesthesiology, Ohio State Medical Association, New York State Society of Anesthesiologists and the New York State Medical Society.
