Biographical Sketch

James Newman, MD, PhD, is a Staff physician specializing in vascular and interventional radiology in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, located on the main campus of Cleveland Clinic. He was appointed in 1999 after serving as vice chairman, Department of Radiology, at MetroHealth Medical Center, Cleveland. He completed a fellowship in cardiovascular and interventional radiology at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, Baltimore in 1990. Dr. Newman is certified in vascular and interventional radiology by the American Board of Radiology. His special interests include uterine fibroid embolization, hemodialysis access and peripheral vascular disease.


Dr. Newman received a PhD in biomedical engineering from Case Western Reserve University, and a medical degree from Case Western University School of Medicine in 1983 and 1984, respectively. Dr. Newman also received a Certificate of Added Qualification, Vascular and Interventional Radiology from the American board of Radiology.


He has served as principal investigator or co-investigator of several research trials, and has published numerous articles related to his field. He has received the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Teaching Award from MetroHealth Medical Center, Cleveland, and currently lectures on vascular and interventional radiology to Cleveland Clinic Radiology residents. Dr. Newman is certified as a Diplomate by the National Board of Medical Examiners
