Biographical Sketch
Ronan John Curtin, MD, MSc, MRCPI, is an associate is a staff cardiologist in the Section of Cardiovascular Imaging, Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, at Cleveland Clinic Heart and Vascular Institute. An expert in echocardiography, cardiac computed tomography (CT), and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), he has a wide array of interests in clinical cardiology including valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathies, thoracic aortic disease, and noninvasive detection of coronary artery disease.
A native of Ireland, Dr. Curtin received his medical degree in 1995 from the National University of Ireland, University College Cork, Ireland, and a postgraduate Masters Degree in Cardiology in 2002 from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland. He trained in clinical cardiology in Ireland and subsequently completed a 2-year clinical fellowship in Advanced Cardiac Imaging at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Curtin was awarded a Certificate of Satisfactory Completion of Specialist Training in Cardiology by the Irish Committee of Higher Medical Training in 2006. He is also a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland.
Dr. Curtin's research interests include noninvasive imaging of the heart using CT and MRI and the role of new echocardiography techniques in the detection and management of cardiomyopathies. He has also conducted research in the area of platelet thrombosis, with a particular interest in ?resistance? to aspirin and other antiplatelet drugs. He has presented at American and international meetings, has published widely in the cardiology literature, and is the recipient of several grants and awards. In 2003, he was awarded a Young Investigator Award at the European Society of Cardiology for his research in the area of aspirin resistance.
