Biographical Sketch
Diane J. Pidwell, PhD, received her doctorate in immunology from the University of Denver. She did postdoctoral research with Xenova Ltd. in Slough, Bucks, England, looking for low-molecular-weight inhibitors of the IL-1 signal transduction system.
In 1992, Dr. Pidwell moved to Ohio to begin training as a Director for Histocompatibility Laboratories at the Ohio State University Histocompatibility Laboratory with Charles G. Orosz. Following her certification as a Director she assumed responsibility for the Histocompatibility and Flow Cytometry Laboratory at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky. While at Jewish Hospital, Diane worked with the Composite Tissue Transplantation Team to develop the first hand transplant program in the United States and performed the immunological monitoring of the first hand transplant recipients. In conjunction with this clinical project she worked closely with Dr. Suzanne Ilstadt and Dr. Warren Breidenbach on the Composite Tissue Research Project.
In September of 2007, Diane assumed the position of Director of Allogen Laboratories at Cleveland Clinic. This laboratory performs all of the tissue-typing procedures for the solid organ and bone marrow transplant programs at Cleveland Clinic, Akron City Hospital and the Charleston Area Medical Center in W.Va. Allogen Laboratories is one of the largest histocompatibility laboratories in the United States, performing over 77,000 assays in 2007. The laboratory consults with physicians for the pre- and post-transplant evaluation of candidates for kidney, pancreas, liver, lung, heart and bone marrow transplantation.
