Biographical Sketch

Carmel Celestin, MD, is a Staff Physician in the Cleveland Clinic Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Section of Vascular Medicine. She began her appointment as a Fellow in the Cardiovascular Department in 2006. She is board-certified in internal medicine and licensed to practice in both Massachusetts and Ohio. Dr. Celestin's specialty interests include lower-extremity edema, peripheral arterial disease, upper-extremity disorders, as well as minority and women's healthcare initiatives.

Dr. Celestin received her medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine, Washington, D.C., in 2002. Her undergraduate degree was obtained from Rutgers University, Newark, N.J., where she was a James Dickson Carr Scholar. Her postgraduate training includes a residency in internal medicine at Baystate Medical Center, an affiliate of Tufts University, in Springfield, Mass. There she became Chief Resident in the Internal Medicine Program while at the same time working as a Hospitalist and as Medical Director of the Change of Heart Program. She received an Excellence In Teaching award from Baystate Medical Center in 2003.

Dr. Celestin has been published in peer-reviewed medical journals. Her research has focused on myocardial infarction, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Additionally, her areas of expertise include treatment for blood clotting disorders, carotid and renal artery disease, lymphedema and abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Dr. Celestin has contributed her time to local civic activities such as mentoring high school students and volunteering at a free clinic. On an international level, she has participated in community outreach programs in Costa Rica and Cuba. She speaks both Spanish and French Creole.
