Biographical Sketch
Vivian C. Aguilar, MD, is a Staff Physician in the Section of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery of the Department of Gynecology, as well as Director of the Fellowship for Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Florida.
Before joining Cleveland Clinic in 2007, she worked at several other prominent hospitals and medical schools, including Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, New York University School of Medicine in New York, Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in New Brunswick, N.J., and Saint Peter’s University Hospital, also in New Brunswick, where she was Director of Research in the Division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery.
She is a Diplomate of both the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the National Board of Medical Examiners, and she is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Her specialty interests include urogynecology, female pelvic medicine and reconstructive pelvic surgery.
Dr. Aguilar obtained her medical degree from the State University of New York School of Medicine Health Sciences Center at Stony Brook, N.Y. She then went on to complete a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Rochester’s Strong Memorial Hospital in New York and a fellowship in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery at Brown University’s Women & Infants’ Hospital of Rhode Island. Dr. Aguilar is licensed to practice medicine in New York, Rhode Island, New Jersey and Florida.
She is active in research in her field, and she is principal or co-author of dozens of studies published in peer-reviewed journals or presented at leading medical meetings. She regularly gives presentations on topics in her field and has authored or co-authored several chapters of medical textbooks.
Among her many honors and awards include the Berlex Junior Faculty Development Award Workshop (2004), the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award from the Clerkship in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Brown University School of Medicine (2002 and 2003), the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Women and Infants’ Hospital (2003) and the Senate Citation for Community Service from the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations (2002).
Dr. Aguilar is a member of the American Urogynecologic Society, American Association of Gynecologic Laparascopists, Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics, International Continence Society, National Association for Continence and the International Urogynecological Association.
