Biographical Sketch

Emad Zakhary, MD, is a staff vascular surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic Department of Vascular Surgery. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery in vascular and general surgery. He is also board-certified by the American Board of Endovascular Medicine. He is a registered physician in vascular laboratory interpretation by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.

Dr. Zakhary’s specialty interests include carotid artery surgery and stents, abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery and stents, peripheral artery bypass surgery and atherectomy, renal and mesenteric artery stents, and ablation of varicose veins by LAZER.

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic in 2006, Dr. Zakhary had an academic appointment as vascular surgeon at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Penn. He completed his residency in surgery at Cleveland Clinic. He then received a Cleveland Clinic fellowship in vascular surgery. Dr. Zakhary’s research has focused on his specialty interests. He is a prinicipal investigator on a study of retrievable inferior vena cava filters. He is an investigator in national trials studying carotid and renal artery revascularization and stents.

He has published chapters in medical textbooks on patient management and authored or co-authored chapters in medical journals on his specialty interests and research. Dr. Zakhary is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery and the Peripheral Vascular Surgical Society.
