Biographical Sketch
Arman Askari, MD, is Associate Director of the Cardiovascular Medicine Training Program and is a staff cardiologist in the Section of Clinical Cardiology, Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, at Cleveland Clinic Heart and Vascular Institute. He is board-certified as Diplomate in both the American Board of Internal Medicine and in the subspecialty of cardiovascular disease. Dr. Askari has a special interest in general cardiology, cardiac catheterization, echocardiography and critical-care cardiology.
He did his undergraduate work at Miami University of Ohio, graduating summa cum laude with a degree in zoology. He received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women?s Hospital at the Harvard Medical School. His clinical training continued with a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine from Cleveland Clinic. He was appointed to Cleveland Clinic's Department of Cardiovascular Medicine in 2005.
Dr. Askari has been an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University since 2003. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Askari is involved in research studies on acute coronary syndromes and efficacy of stem cell transplantation in acute myocardial infarction, cardiovascular ramifications of rheumatoid arthritis, and others.
He has co-edited medical textbooks on cardiac catheterization and management of the patient in the coronary intensive care unit. He was a section editor for the acute coronary syndromes in another multi-authored textbook, and he was the lead author of a medical textbook focusing on the use of antithrombotic therapies in various cardiovascular disease states. He has authored or co-authored ten book chapters on his specialty interests and has many articles and abstracts in peer-reviewed journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, the Journal of Experimental Medicine, and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Askari is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and member of the American Medical Association, the American Heart Association, the Ohio State Medical Association and the Massachusetts Medical Society.
