Biographical Sketch
Daniel Alam, MD, is the Head of the Section of Facial Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery in the Head and Neck Institute of Cleveland Clinic. His practice is focused on facial plastic surgery, from minimally invasive cosmetic procedures to complex microvascular reconstructions of major facial injuries or cancer resections.

Dr. Alam graduated from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine as its valedictorian in 1996. Having already decided in medical school to pursue a career in facial plastics surgery, he pursued his surgical training with an internship at the Massachusetts General Hospital in general surgery. He followed with four years of residency in the Harvard Medical School Program in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery. After completing his training in Boston he completed a fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at the UCLA Medical Center and served on the faculty as a Clinical Instructor in Facial Plastic Surgery.

Dr Alam was recruited to join the Staff of Cleveland Clinic in 2002. His practice encompasses the entire range of facial plastic surgery. He holds board certification in both otolaryngology as well as facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. He was awarded the Anderson Award in 2002, which is given to the physician achieving the highest score in the nation on the board certification exam in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.

The Section of Facial Aesthetic Surgery, under his leadership, has developed six new surgical procedures over the last five years, from new minimally invasive cosmetic procedures to complex new methods for facial reconstruction. This innovation has been matched with excellent outcomes. The success rate of microvascular reconstruction in the section is unparalleled nationally.

Outside Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Alam serves on a number of senior-level academic positions in the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). He is the Director of the AAFPRS sanctioned Fellowship in Facial Plastic Surgery at Cleveland Clinic. He is on the national Academic Curriculum Committee for this organization leading the section on facial paralysis and rehabilitation. He also serves on the editorial board as a reviewer for four major journals
