Biographical Sketch
Matthew Eagleton, MD, is a vascular surgeon in the Department of Vascular Surgery of the Cleveland Clinic Heart and Vascular Institute. He is board-certified in vascular and general surgery. Dr. Eagleton’s specialty interests include endovascular surgery, carotid artery/ventebrobasilar occlusive disease, aortic aneurysm pathogenesis and vessel wall matrix remodeling.
A native of New York, Dr. Eagleton received his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, N.Y., after graduating cum laude with an undergraduate degree. He continued there for his internship and residency training in general surgery, becoming Chief Resident in General Surgery and receiving the Amarendra Sengupta Memorial Prize in Surgery. He then continued his training with a research fellowship in Vascular Surgery. He became both a Research Fellow and Clinical Fellow in Vascular Surgery at The University of Michigan School of Medicine in Ann Arbor, winning the S. Martin Lindenauer Award for Research and Education. Prior to his 2005 appointment as a vascular surgeon, Cleveland Clinic named Dr. Eagleton a Clinical Fellow in Endovascular Surgery.
Currently, Dr. Eagleton is Assistant Professor in the departments of Vascular Surgery and Biomedical Engineering in the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. Prior to his 2005 appointment to Cleveland Clinic, he was Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Dr. Eagleton’s clinical research has focused primarily on his specialty interests. Currently he is a co-investigator on the GORE VIABAHN study of treatments for long lesion superficial femoral artery occlusive disease, and he is involved in the ENOVUS AAA Stent Graft study of abdominal aortic aneurysms, to name a few of his clinical studies. He is an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Surgical Research, the Journal of Vascular Surgery and the Vascular Journal. He has authored or co-authored articles in peer-reviewed journals on his clinical experience and research and co-authored chapters on his specialty interests in medical textbooks.
Dr. Eagleton is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a Member of the Association for Academic Surgery, the International Society of Endovascular Specialists the Peripheral Vascular Surgery Society, the Society for Vascular Surgery, the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery.
