Biographical Sketch
Leonardo Kapural, MD, PhD, is Director of Pain Management Clinical Research in the Department of Pain Management at Cleveland Clinic's main campus. Dr. Kapural is also Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, Case Western University. Dr. Kapural's interests include discogenic low back pain, visceral abdominal pain and spinal cord stimulation.
Dr. Kapural earned a medical degree and a doctorate of philosophy at the University of Zagreb, School of Medicine in the Republic of Croatia. He completed research fellowships at McGill University's Anesthesia Research Department in Montreal, Canada and Physiology Department, University of Connecticut, Farmington, Conn. Dr. Kapural completed his residency at the Cleveland Clinic's Anesthesiology Institute and a fellowship in pain management at Cleveland Clinic where he was honored with the "Ethelee R. Smith, MD" Pain Management Fellow of the Year Award.
Dr. Kapural is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Academy of Pain Medicine, International Association for the Study of Pain, International Spinal Injection Society, American Neuromotor Society and World Institute of Pain. In addition, he is an invited speaker to many national and international meetings.
Dr. Kapural's experience is broad and encompasses teaching and clinical education, extensive research and investigational research studies involving innovative pain treatments. His noteworthy research findings have been published in more than 60 journal articles, more than 50 abstracts and four book chapters.
