Biographical Sketch
Tarek Mekhail, MD, is a Staff Physician in the Solid Tumor Oncology Department at Cleveland Clinic’s main campus. He was appointed in 2002, subsequent to serving as Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellow at Cleveland Clinic. He also serves as Director of the Lung Cancer Medical Oncology Program at Cleveland Clinic’s Taussig Cancer Center.
Dr. Mekhail is board-certified in hematology, medical oncology and internal medicine. His special interests include lung cancer, head and neck cancer, kidney cancer, aerodigestive malignancies and the development of novel agents.
Dr. Mekhail received his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University, Egypt, in 1984. He earned fellowships in ENT and head and neck surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, United Kingdom.
He has authored and co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, abstracts for medical journals and book chapters related to his field. He has also delivered numerous oncology presentations in the United States, Canada and Germany. Dr. Mekhail is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Association of Cancer Research, among others. He was awarded the Teacher of the Year Award in the Hematology/Medical Oncology Program in 2004 and 2005.
