Biographical Sketch

J. Stephen Jones, MD, is Chairman of the Department of Regional Urology of Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute at Cleveland Clinic, and is Associate Professor of Surgery (Urology) at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University.
 
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Zoology at the J. William Fulbright College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Arkansas and a medical degree at UAMS. After completing a six year urology residency at Vanderbilt University in 1992, he joined the Springfield Clinic in Missouri.

Four years later, he assumed Chairmanship of that program, when it became one of the largest urology departments in North America. Under his Chairmanship, the Department of Urological Surgery became the highest rated non-academic urology program in America, according to U.S.News & World Report.
 
With specialty interests in urological oncology and male sterilization, he holds appointment in the Section of Urological Oncology. He serves on both the CCF Division of Surgery Clinical Council and Regional Council.

In addition to clinical & administrative responsibilities, he is involved in basic science and clinical research involving bladder & prostate cancer, voiding dysfunction, and male sterilization. His work of over 60 peer-reviewed and over 20 non-peer-reviewed publications has been in the Journal of Urology, Urology, BJU International, Journal of Endourology, Prostate Cancer and Prostatic Diseases, AUA Update, the American Journal of Urological Reviews, the Journal of Andrology, and Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, and he is the author of almost twenty book chapters.
 
His book for the lay public, "The Complete Prostate Book" (Prometheus Books, Amherst N.Y. Foreword by Coach Rick Pitino), was published in August of 2005. His previous book, "Overcoming Impotence" (Prometheus Books, Amherst N.Y. Foreword by Senator Bob Dole), was published in 2003. He is Associate Editor of Operative Urology at the Cleveland Clinic (Humana Press) and Senior Editor of Prostate Biopsy: Techniques, Indications, and Complications (Humana).
 
He serves as the Editor of Urology News, as Associate Editor of Urology, on the Editorial Board of BJU International, Advisory Board of Maximum Fitness Magazine, Charter Member Editorial Board, Your Health Now (Subsidiary of Merck Manual), and is a former editorial board member for Urology Times. In addition, he is the Chairman of the Cryo Online Database (COLD) national registry.

  • Absorbable sling to enhance early return of continence following radical prostatectomy in high risk patients
  • Technique to reduce risk of rectourethral fistula during cryotherapy for prostate cancer
  • Use of video monitor distraction to reduce discomfort of cystoscopy
