Biographical Sketch
Muhammad Mumtaz, MD, is a Staff Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgeon at Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital, which he joined in 2000. He was trained by the world-renowned pediatric cardiac surgeon Dr. Roger B. B. Mee, with whom he worked for nearly four years. Prior to that, he was a Cardiothoracic Surgery Resident at Mid American Heart Institute, St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. He completed a general surgery residency at the University of Connecticut in Farmington. Dr. Mumtaz is certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery.
His specialty interests include neonatal cardiac surgery, pediatric cardiac transplantation, adult congenital heart disease, anomalies of pulmonary veins and coronary arteries, minimally invasive surgery for congenital heart disease and valve repair for congenital valvular lesions.
A native of Pakistan, Dr. Mumtaz received his medical degree from King Edward Medical College at the University of the Punjab and completed an internship at the Mayo Hospital in Lahore, Pakistan. In the course of his education, he received several honors and awards. Dr. Mumtaz has had articles published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. He is a member of the Society for Thoracic Surgeons and the Cardiothoracic Surgery Network.
