Biographical Sketch

Anthony Rizzo, MD, is a Staff Surgeon in the Department of Vascular Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic’s Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. Prior to his Clinic appointment in 2002, he was a private-practice vascular surgeon at Christus Schumpert Medical Center in Shreveport, La., and a general surgeon with Surgical Associates of Eastern Shore in Fairhope, Ala. His specialties include carotid-artery surgery and thoracic aortic aneurysm repair and reconstruction.

Dr. Rizzo received his medical degree from Temple University Medical School, Philadelphia, after earning a bachelor of science degree from Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa. He completed his surgical internship at the university of Pennsylvania Graduate Hospital and was a surgical resident at Temple University Hospital and the University of South Alabama, Mobile, Ala. He also completed a research fellowship at the University of South Alabama and a vascular-surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. He is board-certified in general and vascular surgery by the American Board of Surgery.

He has served as a lecturer and presenter at medical conferences nationwide. He has authored chapters for two books--Reperfusion Injuries and Clinical Capillary Leak Syndrome, published in 1994, and Interstitum, Connective tissue and Lymphatics (1995)--and has co-authored numerous articles that have been published in leading medical journals such as the American Journal of Physiology, American Surgeon, Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and the Journal of Vascular Surgery.
