Biographical Sketch

Professional information: 

I was born and raised right here in Cleveland, Ohio. After graduating from St. Ignatius High School, I attended the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, received my medical school training at the Medical College of Ohio at Toledo, and my pediatrics residency training at Cleveland Clinic. I then practiced pediatrics and adolescent medicine for 22 years with Euclid Clinic/University Mednet before joining the Cleveland Clinic staff in the summer of 2000.

During my years with Mednet, I served as Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and Director of the Newborn Nursery at Euclid Hospital, was a member of the newborn resuscitation team at Euclid Hospital, and was an instructor for the American Heart Association Neonatal Resuscitation Program.

I am board-certified in pediatrics and maintain membership in the American Academy of Pediatrics. I am currently an instructor for the American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support course. I am interested in all aspects of child and adolescent medicine, with special interests in sports medicine, asthma, the special-needs child, and ADHD/academic failure.

Personal information:

My wife, Patricia, and I are married for over 30 years.Together we nurtured and guided our four children into adulthood. Being a father is both the most difficult and the most rewarding endeavor of my life. Along the way I enjoyed serving as den leader and cub master of the local Cub Scout pack, assistant scoutmaster of the Boy Scout troop, and team physician for the middle school football teams.

On a personal note, I keep active. My wife says I never stop moving. My sporting avocations include bicycling, camping, backpacking, bow hunting, fishing, snorkel diving, weight training, and long-distance running. My official 1987 Boston Marathon time was 2 hours, 59 minutes, and 56 seconds. Other hobbies include auto repair (I like fixing things), gardening, reading adventure novels, and chess. I serve as team physician for the Lake Catholic High School wrestling team. I also volunteer-tutor math and science to high-school students with learning disabilities.
