Biographical Sketch

Roy Greenberg, MD, is a Vascular Surgeon in the Departments of Vascular Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Biomedical Engineering at Cleveland Clinic. He is also the Director of Endovascular Research and the Cleveland Clinic Peripheral Vascular Core Laboratory. His practice is located at the Cleveland Clinic main campus. Dr. Greenberg is board-certified in vascular and general surgery. His specialty interests include carotid artery surgery, thoraco-abdominal aortic repair/reconstruction, thoracic aortic aneurysm repair, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic aneurysm stent repair, endovascular stent repair and endovascular stent research.

Dr. Greenberg received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine after completing his undergraduate degree at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. He completed his surgical internship and residency at The University of Rochester, where he became Chief Resident in Surgery and Instructor in Surgery. During this time, he won the British Journal of Surgery Outstanding Resident Award. His clinical training continued at the University of Rochester with a fellowship in interventional radiology followed by a fellowship in vascular surgery. Dr. Greenberg joined Cleveland Clinic in 1999.

Dr. Greenberg has been inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He received the American College of Surgeons Student Award and the CIBA-GEIGY Medical Student Award during medical school, as well as the residency teaching award during training.

He has authored or co-authored numerous articles in peer –reviewed medical journals. He is on the editorial board of seven journals including the Journal of Endovascular Therapy, the Annals of Vascular Surgery and Cardiovascular Surgery. He serves as a reviewer for Circulation, Lancet, the Journal of Vascular Surgery and the Journal of the American College of Surgeons, among others.

The focus of Dr. Greenberg’s research has been the development and assessment of endovascular devices for the treatment of aortic pathology. He is especially interested in aortic or aortoiliac aneurysms, dissections and occlusive disease. He has more than 35 patents on devices that have emerged from his research endeavors. His clinical trials include his work as national principal investigator for the U.S. FDA Phase II Zenith Endograft Trial for abdominal aortic endografting. He is also principal or co-investigator of other clinical studies focused on endografting of the thoracic and thoracoabdominal aorta, and the ascending aorta.

Dr. Greenberg has published more than 75 articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, several books on his specialty interests as well as more than 20 chapters in medical textbooks. His vascular surgeries have been telecast live internationally and nationally including to medical conferences and symposia. He has traveled internationally as an invited lecturer speaking on his specialty interests to hundreds of international and national medical conferences.

Dr. Greenberg is a Distinguished Fellow of the Society of Vascular Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology and a Fellow of the American Association for Thoracic Surgeons. He is a member of the Peripheral Vascular Society, the Society of Interventional Radiology, the International Society of Endovascular Specialists, the Midwestern Vascular Surgical Society and the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Surgeons
