Biographical Sketch
J. Michael Mervart, MD, is a Staff Physician in the Center for Regional Neurological Surgery. He is Section Chief of Westside Neurosurgery and on the Stroke Subcommittee. Dr. Mervart is also affiliated with Lakewood Hospital where he is Section Chief of Neurosurgery. His specialty interests include general, vascular and pediatric neurosurgery, as well as head injury prevention.
He is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
Dr. Mervart earned his medical degree from the Memorial University of Newfoundland Faculty of Medicine in St. John’s, Newfoundland. He completed a surgical internship at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. He was a resident in trauma and general surgery at Belleview Hospital in New York, NY, a resident in neurosurgery at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, and a Clinical Fellow at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario.
Dr. Mervart is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Fellow. He has presented on rheumatoid arthritis, medical/surgical management of stroke, cerebellar infarctions, head injury prevention, and the application of MRI in neurosurgery, among others. He has also published multiple articles.
