Biographical Sketch

Thomas Santoscoy, MD, is the Attending Surgeon in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Hillcrest Hospital. He has a special interest in surgical treatment of adult acquired heart disease and thoracic surgery. Dr. Santoscoy is certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Santoscoy received his medical degree at the University of Kansas School of Medicine after graduating from the University of Texas at El Paso. After completing residencies in general surgery and in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at Cleveland Clinic, he spent one year in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine as a Fellow in Congenital and Acquired Heart Disease.

Dr. Santoscoy is active in the community, currently serving on the board of Esperanza, Inc. He is a former Board Member of Providence House. His publications include articles on the surgical management of portal hypertension and esophageal varices and accuracy of carotid compression tomography in the diagnosis of carotid artery stenosis.

Dr. Santoscoy is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons and in the American College of Cardiology. He is also a member of the Cleveland Surgical Society, the Cleveland Academy of Medicine, the Ohio State Medical Association, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the American College of Chest Physicians.
