Ellen Mayer Sabik, M.D.

Ellen Mayer Sabik, MD, is a staff cardiologist in the Section of Cardiovascular Imaging, Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, at Cleveland Clinic Heart and Vascular Institute. She is certified by the American Board of Cardiology, National Board of Echocardiography, and the American Board of Internal Medicine, and she holds certifications in advanced trauma life support and advanced cardiac life support. Her specialty interests focus on nuclear cardiology, echocardiography and valvular heart disease, the use of intravenous contrast in stress echocardiography as well as the study of methemoglobinemia.

Dr. Mayer Sabik graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in biological sciences from Cornell University, where she was inducted into the national honor society, Phi Beta Kappa; Cornell eventually inducted her into its University Athletic Hall of Fame. She received her medical degree at Harvard Medical School, and completed her internship and residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston before accepting a cardiology fellowship from Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. Another cardiology fellowship closely followed from Cleveland Clinic, where she went on to receive an advanced cardiac imaging fellowship. She was appointed to Cleveland Clinic in 1997.

Dr. Mayer Sabik has had an academic appointment as Instructor at Harvard Medical School and as a Clinical Fellow at Cleveland Clinic. She has been involved in a number of clinical investigations that focus on her specialty interests, lecturing at national and international symposia and conferences on topics related to heart disease. In 1995, she received a travel award to present her research findings on congestive heart failure and heart disease at the American College of Cardiology Scientific Sessions.

She has authored a chapter in a textbook on intraoperative echocardiography, chapters in the Cardiology Intensive Board Review Questions book and the Cleveland Clinic Intensive Cardiovascular Medicine and Board Review Text, as well as articles and abstracts for professional and scientific journals including Circulation, Journal of Heart Failure and Journal of the American College of Cardiology. In addition, she has been involved in several multimedia projects on echocardiography.

Dr. Mayer Sabik is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and American Society of Echocardiography and holds membership in the American Heart Association and the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology. She is boarded by the American College of Cardiology, American Society of Echocardiography and American Society of Nuclear Cardiology.
