Biographical Sketch
Mark Niebauer, MD is a staff cardiologist in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Section of Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Niebauer has a special interest in cardiac defibrillation and catheter cryoablation.
Dr. Niebauer earned a BS in Chemistry from Ball State University, Muncie, Ind., and a Master's in Biology followed by a PhD in Physiology from Purdue University. His PhD research was on cardiac defibrillation. After receiving his PhD, he was a research fellow with the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of Health at the University of Nebraska before entering medical school at Creighton University, Omaha.
Dr. Niebauer received his medical degree in 1988 and went on to serve his residency in internal medicine at the University of Michigan followed by fellowships in cardiovascular medicine and cardiac electrophysiology. He was on the Cleveland Clinic staff from 1995 to 2002, rejoining the staff in 2008 from the University of Nebraska Medical Center where he was Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology and an Associate Professor of Medicine.
A fellow of the American College of Cardiology since 1997, Dr. Niebauer also is a member of the Heart Rhythm Society, the Cardiac Electrophysiology Society and the American Heart Association Clinical Cardiology Scientific Council. In addition, he serves as scientific advisor to Cryocath, Inc. and St. Jude Medical, Inc. He also serves as a data safety board member for Ablation Frontiers, Inc.
Dr. Niebauer is board-certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. He has authored over one hundred papers and abstracts in leading scientific journals and is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences related to cardiac electrophysiology and defibrillation.
