Biographical Sketch
Robert Helfand, MD, is the Section Head for Anesthesia for Orthopedic Surgery at Cleveland Clinic. He also directs the Perioperative Autotransfusion Service.
Dr. Helfand graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He trained in internal medicine at Stanford University Hospital and in anesthesia at University Hospitals of Cleveland. He is board-certified in internal medicine and anesthesiology.
Dr. Helfand is active in research and education. He is a member of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia, the American Association of Blood Banks, the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the International Anesthesia Research Foundation.
His main interests are perioperative blood conservation, preoperative evaluation and regional anesthesia techniques.
