Graham S. Schwarz, MD joined the Cleveland Clinic in 2010 and serves as Vice Chairman and Director of the Microsurgery and Breast Reconstruction Fellowship in the Department of Plastic Surgery. His practice focuses on both tissue flap and implant-based breast reconstruction, as well as on surgical prevention and treatment of lymphedema including lymphaticovenous bypass and vascularized lymph tissue transplant. An active member of Cleveland Clinic’s multidisciplinary breast cancer, sarcoma and facial transplant teams, Dr. Schwarz collaborates with physicians and surgeons from multiple specialties to perform complex oncologic and post-traumatic reconstruction.
Dr. Schwarz completed undergraduate and graduate bioengineering degrees at the University of Pennsylvania and obtained his medical degree at Rutgers University: Robert Wood Johnson Medical School where he graduated as a member of AOA.
He completed post-graduate general surgery residency training at Weill Cornell Medical Center and subsequently pursued plastic surgery fellowship at New York Presbyterian –Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medical Center where he served as administrative chief. During this time, he received aesthetic surgery training at Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat and Lenox Hill Hospitals. Dr. Schwarz completed a Reconstructive Microsurgery and Breast Reconstruction Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Dr. Schwarz is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Board of Surgeons. He is member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery, Plastic Surgery Research Council and the American Association of Plastic Surgeons.
Dr. Schwarz has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and has lectured internationally. He is Associate Professor of Surgery in Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, serves as an associate editor for Annals of Plastic Surgery and is a reviewer for Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery, Microsurgery, Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
As a clinical investigator, his research interests include improving surgical and patient reported outcomes in breast reconstruction, and on surgical prevention and treatment of lymphedema. He and his team are focused on the intersection of emerging technology and patient care involving AI/computer assisted surgery, surgical robotics and enhanced surgical visualization modalities.

Dr Shwartz had an approachable manner. He was respectful and interested in being helpful to address my issue. Unfortunately, I wasn't convinced that he understands this rare disease and it's treatment as well as I would like. I was comfortable with his bedside manner, but I wasn't sure that I would get the same results as I would from another specialist that I've seen in the past.

Dr Schwarz and his team have been incredibly responsive to my needs!!! I could not have asked for a better, more diligent, and caring surgeon than Dr Schwarz. And Sarah Block is a huge asset to his team and has been very engaged in making sure that all of my concerns are addressed. I know that I am in very good hands and feel blessed to be a patient of Dr Schwarz.

As I stated previously, I have been immensely impressed by the compassionate care that I have received from everyone on my care team. (Particularly Dr Malgieri and Dr Schwarz) I can see why the Cleveland Clinic is such a world renowned hospital. The care is exceptional! And this makes all this difference in the world when you are going through a medical challenge. To know with certainty that you are in the very best of hands brings a peace of mind that is priceless!
