Biographical Sketch
Conrad Simpfendorfer. MD, FACC, is an Interventional Cardiologist in the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine. He is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. His specialty interests include the treatment of valvular heart disease and coronary artery disease. He specializes in cardiac catheterization and coronary interventions.
A native of Chile, Dr. Simpfendorfer received his medical degree from Catholic University of Chile, in Santiago, graduating with "Unanimous Distinction." He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at St. Luke's Hospital in Cleveland, followed by a fellowship in cardiology at Cleveland Clinic. He was appointed to Cleveland Clinic Staff in the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine in 1982.
Dr. Simpfendorfer received the Distinguished Teacher Award from the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine in 1994 and from Interventional Cardiology in 2006. In 2003, Dr. Simpfendorfer received the SOLACI Award from the Latin American Society of Interventional Cardiology for his continued support of educational activities of the Society. In 2006, he was honored by the Universidad Autonoma de Mexico with the Dr. Ignacio Chavez Medal. He was named among the Best Doctors in America for 2007-2008.
A frequent invited lecturer at international medical meetings, Dr. Simpfendorfer has authored more than one hundred articles and book chapters on his specialty interests. He has also served as the primary and co-investigator for numerous clinical studies related to coronary interventions.
Dr. Simpfendorfer is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA), Fellow of the Society for Cardiac Angiography, Fellow of the American College of Angiology, Fellow of the Interamerican College of Physicians and Surgeons and a Fellow of the Council on Geriatric Cardiology. In addition, he is a member of the American College of Physicians and the International Andreas Gruentzig Society. He is an Honorary Member of the Cardiology Societies of Chile, Ecuador and Peru.
Dr. Simpfendorfer was Chairman of the Cleveland Clinic International Center from 1998 to 2006 and is currently a member of the Board of Governors and Board of Trustees.
