Biographical Sketch
Russell Raymond, DO, is an Interventional Cardiologist in the Cleveland Clinic Department of Cardiovascular Medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, cardiology and interventional cardiology. Dr. Raymond specializes in cardiac catheterization and high-risk coronary interventions including angioplasty, stent and atherectomy (directional and rotational). He also has a special interest in investigational devices and intracoronary ultrasound.
Following his undergraduate degree from Asbury College in Kentucky, Dr. Raymond graduated as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He interned at Doctor’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, and completed his internal medicine residency at Cleveland Clinic. He accepted a fellowship from the Cleveland Clinic for advanced training in cardiology followed by a special fellowship in interventional cardiology. He has been with Cleveland Clinic as an Interventional Cardiologist since 1988.
Dr. Raymond has long been involved in many clinical research studies related to cardiac issues. Currently, he is a Principal Investigator in the TAXUS IV and V trials on the treatment of coronary disease using a single paclitaxel-eluting stent. He is also involved as Principal Investigator in the multicenter, double-blind, randomized trial on the anti-atherosclerotic efficacy, safety and tolerability of atorvastatin alone or in fixed combination in patients with documented coronary artery disease. Dr. Raymond is also a Co-Investigator on many other current clinical studies related to the evaluation and treatment of heart disease.
Dr. Raymond is the co-author of chapters in medical textbooks on pregnancy and heart disease and on coronary artery perforation. He has published numerous articles and abstracts in leading peer-reviewed publications on his research work and his clinical experience, including Circulation, Catheterization and Cardiovascular Diagnosis, Journal of the American College of Cardiology and European Heart Journal, to name a few.
Dr. Raymond is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and a Fellow of the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI). He is a member of the American Heart Association, the American Osteopathic Association, the Ohio Osteopathic Association and the American College of Osteopathic Internists.
Every February, Dr. Raymond leads a medical mission team to Honduras. He also enjoys being a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Christian Medical and Dental Association and, in his leisure time, enjoys playing golf.
