Biographical Sketch
Philip L. Bailin, MD, M.B.A., F.A.C.P., is immediate past Chairman of the Department of Dermatology (1977- 2005) at Cleveland Clinic. His clinical interests include cosmetic surgery, Mohs micrographic surgery, laser surgery and cutaneous oncology. Dr. Bailin has been listed in Best Doctors in America numerous times.
Board-certified in Dermatology and Laser Surgery, Dr. Bailin is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American College of Physicians. He is past president and an active member of the American College of Mohs Surgery, the Association of Academic Dermatologic Surgeons and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
In addition, Dr. Bailin has served many professional societies including the American Academy of Dermatology, the Skin Cancer Foundation and the International Society for Dermatologic Surgery. A frequent national and international lecturer at professional meetings, Dr. Bailin has published more than 120 articles and book chapters on the diagnosis and management of skin cancer, laser treatment of skin diseases, facial rejuvenation techniques and cutaneous surgical techniques. Currently, Dr. Bailin's primary research interest is in applications and mechanisms of photodynamic therapy of skin cancer and pre-cancer.
After receiving his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Ill., Dr. Bailin completed his internship and residency in Dermatology at Cleveland Clinic. He completed a fellowship in Dermatopathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington D.C., as well as a fellowship in MOHS micrographic surgery at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
Dr. Bailin also received his M.B.A. from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. He has served as Cleveland Clinic's Director of the Office of Practice Management and as Associate Director of Leadership Development in the Office of Professional Staff Affairs.
