Biographical Sketch
Donald A. Underwood, MD, is Head of Electrocardiography Laboratory in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Heart and Vascular Institute. He is also serving as the Interim Section Head of Clinical Cardiology. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.
A Canton, Ohio native, Dr. Underwood is a graduate of Baldwin Wallace College and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Rhode Island Hospital and his fellowship in Clinical Cardiology at Cleveland Clinic prior to accepting an appointment to the Cleveland Clinic medical staff in 1980.
As Director of the Core Electrocardiographic Research Laboratory, a position he has held since 1997, Dr. Underwood directs a team that provides electrocardiographic services for clinical studies conducted at Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Underwood’s clinical interests include electrocardiography and noninvasive cardiovascular testing. He has published dozens of articles, abstracts and book chapters in the field of electrocardiography and is the author of the textbook Clinical Electrocardiography: Self Assessment and Review.
He has served on the Advisory Committee on Electrocardiography of the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Cardiology and the Internal Medicine Curriculum Working Group for Clinical Clerkships at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Chest Physicians. Dr. Underwood is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases and Electrocardiographic Interpretation.
