Biographical Sketch

Daniel John Mazanec, MD, is Department Chairman of the Spine Center at Cleveland Clinic, a position he has held since 1991. He is also a Staff member in the Department of General Internal Medicine and the Department of Rheumatic and Immunologic Disease at Cleveland Clinic. Board-certified in internal medicine with a subspecialty in rheumatology, Dr. Mazanec’s clinical interests are evaluation and management of back pain, osteoporosis and bone disease and adult rheumatology.

A frequent lecturer at national and international meetings, Dr. Mazanec has authored more than 40 articles, book chapters and textbooks. He is a member of many professional societies and a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American College of Rheumatology and the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians. In addition, Dr. Mazanec has served as chairman for numerous professional committees including the Medical Advisory Board for the Northeastern Ohio Chapter of the Lupus Foundation. He is a reviewer for the Spine Journal, Consultant, Archives of Internal Medicine and Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine.

After receiving his degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Dr. Mazanec completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. He completed a fellowship in rheumatic and immunologic disease at Cleveland Clinic.
