Biographical Sketch

Walter Maurer, MD, is the Section Chief for Ambulatory Anesthesia within the Anesthesiology Institute at Cleveland Clinic. He is board-certified in internal medicine and anesthesiology.

Dr. Maurer received his medical degree from Ohio State University College of Medicine after receiving a bachelor and masters of science in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He did his internal medicine training at Los Angeles County Hospital and his residency at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center.

After practicing internal medicine for six years, Dr. Maurer came to Cleveland Clinic, where he completed an anesthesia residency and then subsequently became a member of the professional staff. His areas of interest are in preoperative evaluation, ambulatory anesthesia and quality improvement.

He has been at Cleveland Clinic for 22 years, having served as President of the Medical Staff and as a member of the Board of Governors. For eight years, he guided the Cleveland Clinic Health System Office of Quality Management through the ever-demanding area of quality improvement.

Dr. Maurer served as President of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia from 2005 to 2006.
